Composites bridge project wins award
A collaborative bridge rehabilitation project carried out by the University of Delaware, the Delaware Department of Transportation, the Federal Highway Administration and local industry has received the 1998 American Society of Civil Engineers Delaware Section Project of the Year Award.
Completed in November 1998, the project is one of the first, state-owned all-composites bridges in the nation. The bridge (Bridge 351 over Muddy Run) is located on Business Rt. 896 South in Glasgow.
The award was conferred Feb. 25. during the Delaware Engineers Week celebration at the DuPont Country Club.
UD participants included representatives of the Center for Composite Materials, the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and the Delaware Transportation Institute. UD provided technical expertise in the areas of material properties, bridge design, construction and monitoring.
