Foundation head honored

Blaine C. McKusick, a member of the University of Delaware Research Foundation since 1972, was honored Jan. 23 for his long-time dedication and outstanding contributions to the organization. During the Foundation's annual luncheon, UDRF President Richard E. Emmert thanked McKusick, citing his "generous and excellent service."

In 1982, McKusick retired from the DuPont Co., where he was the assistant director for the Haskell Labortory for Toxicology and Industrial Medicine. He served on the UDRF's Research Committee from 1980 until 1998. During those 18 years, Emmert said, the committee processed 917 applications for funding and awarded $4.6 million to UD faculty in the sciences and engineering fields. While McKusick's expertise includes organic chemistry and the agricultural sciences, Emmert noted, he "could be counted on to provide quality reviews" of proposals representing a broad range of fields.

In addition to his service with UDRF, McKusick has contributed to the Marine Associates and the Sea Grant Advisory Council, Emmert reported. His many professional honors include a 1992 UD Medal of Distinction.
