Men's basketball tourney this weekend in the BCC

The UD men's basketball team is the No. 1 seed for the second straight year for the America East Men's Basketball Tournament to be held from Friday, Feb. 26, through Sunday, Feb. 28, at the Bob Carpenter Center.

UD, the defending league champion, has an overall record of 22-5 and a league mark of 15-3. Drexel University also had 15-3 record in league play, but the Blue Hens won the tie breaker after sweeping the season series with Drexel.

The tournament will begin Friday, Feb. 26., when No. 8 seed Boston University (9-17, 5-13) will play No. 9 seed Towson University (5-21, 4-14), at 7 p.m. Thirty minutes after the conclusion of the first game, No. 7 seed Northeastern University (9-17, 6-12) will play No. 10 seed the University of New Hampshire (4-22, 2-16).

The quarterfinals will be held Saturday, Feb. 27. No. 4 seed the University of Maine (18-8, 13-5) will play No. 5 seed the University of Hartford (11-15, 9-9) at noon. Thirty minutes after the conclusion of the first game, UD will play the winner of the Boston/Towson game. During the evening session, No. 2 seed Drexel University (18-8, 15-3) will play the winner of the Northeastern/New Hampshire game. The second game, beginning 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first, will pit No. 3 seed Hofstra University (21-8, 14-4) against No. 6 seed the University of Vermont (11-15, 7-11).

The semifinals will be held on Sunday, Feb. 28, with the Delaware/ Boston/Towson winner playing the Maine/Hartford winner at noon. The second game will pit the Drexel/ Northeastern/New Hampshire winner against the Hofstra/Vermont winner at 2:30 p.m.

The championship will be held Sat., March 6, at the site of the highest remaining seed and will be televised live on ESPN. The America East champion will have an automatic berth at the NCAA tournament.

Tickets are $40 for all four sessions of the tournament and are $10, $12 and $15 for individual sessions of two games. Student tickets are $5 per session. For information, call UD1-HENS.
