The University of Delaware has been chosen to host the American Collegiate Hockey Association's 1999 National Championships. Tournament games will be played from Tuesday, March 2, through Saturday, March 6, at the UD ice arenas. Tickets, to see some of the best college teams in the country, are on sale now at the Bob Carpenter Center box office.
This is the first time in the history of the tournament that a school on the East Coast has been awarded this honor. The last time the tournament was held this far east was in 1992 at Penn State University.
The tournament is held in a round-robin format for the first three days, with the top schools in the Division 1, ACHA National Poll competing for the national title.
UD receives an automatic bid as the host institution and local fans can see the Fightin' Blue Hens take to the ice at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, March 3-5.
Tournament passes, daily tickets and group ticket packages are all available.
A tournament pass, $30 for adults and $22 for youth, guarantees seating for five days. Daily tickets, which range from $6 to $10 for adults and $4 to $8 for youth, allows patrons to see just those games that fit into their schedule. Group tickets, at a cost of $5 each, may be purchased for groups of 20 or more for a single session.
"The UD hockey club is pleased to have this opportunity to host the 1999 ACHA championships," Josh Brandwene, head coach for the UD hockey team, said. "This reflects positively on the growth of the program, the facilities at UD and the recent on-ice success of the team."
The competing teams include Iowa State University, UD, University of Michigan-Dearborn, Towson University, Pennsylvania State University, University of Illinois, University of Arizona, Western Michigan University, Ohio University and Eastern Michigan University.
