Professor to read poems Sept. 18

Poet Jeanne Murray Walker, English, will read from her most recent collection, Gaining Time, at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 18.

The reading, free and open to the public, will be held in Room 205 of Gore Hall.

Walker is a 1998 Pew Fellowship recipient and a playwright. Her poetry books include Coming into History and Fugitive Angels.

Her first book of poems, Nailing Up the Home Sweet Home, won the 1980 Associated Writing Program Award.

Her award-winning plays include Rowing into Light on Lake Adley, winner of the 1996 Stage Time award from the Minneapolis Playwrights' Center, and Stories from the 'National Enquirer,' winner of the 1990 Washington, D.C., Theatre Festival Competition.

Rowing into Light on Lake Adley will be produced by UD's Professional Theatre Training Program in January.

Walker's honors also include fellowships and grants from UD and from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.

Her reading is sponsored by the Department of English and the English Honors Society.
