Hosts needed
The Office of Foreign Students and Scholars Services is looking for persons in the Newark area willing to befriend international students. The volunteer Host Family Program is flexible and allows families to choose just how involved they become in the lives of the students they host.

"Some families may have their students over for dinner once a month, some have them visit at holidays or have the students join them on day trips. The level of interaction is largely determined by the families," Vera Wagenfuhr, coordinator of the Host Family Program, explained.

Currently, the program is in need of families who can host students overnight in their homes for short stays, while housing logistics for some international students are being finalized, Wagenfuhr said.

For more information on the Host Family Program or to volunteer, call 831-2115.

Research proposals
The Delaware Research Partnership (DRP) has announced its second request for proposals for the 1999 fiscal year. DRP matches grants or contracts from private industry to conduct cooperative research with UD.

The program, established by the state of Delaware in 1984, is designed to stimulate high technology research. Under revised procedures, a second group of proposals will be approved for fiscal year 1999 funding in the fall. Applicants must have letters of intent to support the research from industrial sponsors, and company contributions must be "new" money, not existing funding for research in progress.

Faculty and professional staff who have identified a potential industrial sponsor for a research project are invited to submit a proposal to the Office of the Vice Provost for Research on or before Oct. 1. To be considered, applicants must follow DRP guidelines and application forms, which are available from the research office or at <www.udel.edu/ OVPR/internal/Udprogs.html>.

Direct deposits
Effective Oct. 1, all business expense report expenses (BERs) and cash advances will be processed as direct deposits. Employees who do not have direct deposit set up through the University Payroll Department will continue to receive checks.

Please contact Mary Hutton in Accounts Payable at 831-1476 with any questions.
