Opening ceremony

State, city and University officials gathered on Monday in the Delaware Technology Park to cut the ribbon symbolizing the completion and opening of the Wyoming Road extension that connects Library Avenue with Marrows Road.

The one-half-mile road will reduce congestion and offer a new option for residents who want to avoid busy intersections on Route 273 and to travel to the Brookside area and the Newark Senior Center on White Chapel Road.

The state provided funding to the Delaware Technology Park, which received assistance from UD's Delaware Transportation Institute, to complete the road project approximately nine months ahead of schedule.

Cutting the ceremonial ribbon are (from left) Anne Canby, Delaware secretary of transportation; UD President David P. Roselle; J. Michael Bowman, chairperson, Delaware Technology Park; Del. Gov. Thomas R. Carper; Hal Godwin, mayor of Newark; and Steven Amick, Del. state senator.

Proposals for Delaware Research Partnership (DRP) matching grants or contacts for fiscal year 2000, beginning July 1, 1999, are due on or before March 31.

Established in 1984 by the Delaware General Assembly to stimulate high-technology research in the state, DRP matches grants or contracts from private industry to conduct cooperative research with UD. More than $16 million in matching funds have been awarded to UD researchers since the program's inception.

Applicants must have letters of intent to support research projects from industrial sponsors, and funding must be "new" money. Small Delaware companies are especially encouraged to be sponsors, although large and nonDelaware companies also are eligible.

Proposals must follow DRP guidelines. Application forms are available from the Office of the Vice Provost for Research or on the web at <www.udel.edu/ OVPR/internal/UDprogs.html>.
