Loved by audiences and hailed by critics, Rock has emerged as one of the strongest comedic voices of his generation. A writer in The New York Times has called him "probably the funniest and smartest comedian working today" and a Vanity Fair writer dubbed him "young, gifted and the funniest man in America."

Rock, who grew up in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn, N.Y., first drew national attention when he joined the cast of Saturday Night Live in 1989.

He made his film debut in Beverly Hills Cop II with Eddie Murphy, and since then has appeared in several films, including Boomerang, New Jack City, I'm Gonna Git You Sucka!, Lethal Weapon 4 and Dr. Doolittle. Later this year, he will be seen in Kevin Smith's Dogma and Neil LaBute's Nurse Betty.

Two popular specials on HBO brought Rock awards, and the second special, Bring the Pain, was released as both a home video and a CD, which went on to win a Grammy. After the success of these specials, The Chris Rock Show was created as an HBO series, recently completing its third season and winning an Emmy nomination for writing.

Adding one more credit to his list of achievements, Rock's debut book, Rock This, published in 1997, spent time on both The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal's bestseller lists.

Rock is also an executive producer of the ABC sitcom The Hughleys and is developing The Illtop Journal, a new humor magazine based at Howard University in Washington, D.C.
