Some of the best young skaters who train at the University of Delaware will compete in the U.S. Nationals this year in Salt Lake City, and a National Send-Off Show is planned for 5 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 24. This chance to see the stars of tomorrow will take place in the Rust Ice Arena. Tickets, $12 for adults and $7 for UD students and children under 12, are on sale now at the arena.
The show features junior world silver medalists in pairs Paul Binnebose and Laura Handy and single skaters Jeff Merica, Eastern men's senior champion; Johnny Weir, Eastern men's junior champion; and Sara Wheat, Eastern ladies' junior champion.

Career day set on women in sports
A panel discussion highlighting "Women in Sports Career Day" will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 30, in the auditorium of the Bob Carpenter Center.The public is invited to this free event where panelists will represent a variety of sports-related careers. These will include a sports medicine physician, a physical therapist, NCAA and Big East athletic administrators, a member of the media, a professional athlete and an owner of an athletic shoe business.
Each panelist will discuss her career, how she got to where she is today, what she likes and dislikes about the career and recommendations for others considering such a career. There also will be an opportunity for informal discussions and questions.
All attendees will be welcomed to watch the UD women's basketball team host Boston University at 1 p.m.

The 35-piece, all-brass Chesapeake Silver Cornet Brass Band will present a free, public concert at 8 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 6, in the Loudis Recital Hall of the Amy E. du Pont Music Building.The Chesapeake Silver Cornet Brass Band is one of the few all-brass concert bands in the United States. It is modeled after the Sousa-style bands of the early 1900s and the traditional factory brass bands in England, as featured in the motion picture Brassed Off.
While its home is in Newark, the band's members come from Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland.

High-tech forum in Clayton Hall
"E-Commerce: Changing the Face of Goods, Services and Transportation" is the subject of a public policy forum scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 4, in Clayton Hall. The forum is the second in a series focusing on innovations in technology that will change the way people live and work in the 21st century.Cost is $45 and includes the forum, continental breakfast, lunch and materials.
The forum will provide an overview of the current status and future directions of electronic commerce, as well as a framework for discussing how to address infrastructure needs and the most efficient and productive use of electronic commerce by businesses, government and consumers.
Featured speakers, drawn from firms and government agencies that are leaders and innovators in the application and analysis of electronic commerce, include: David Henry, secretary on electronic commerce, U.S. Department of Commerce; Rick Ayre, editorial vice president of Amazon.Com; Gary Lambert, deputy purchasing agent for the state of Massachusetts; and Michael Schneider, alliance manager of the electronic commerce team for the United Parcel Service.
