Tubby Raymond named Lombardi Coach of Year

Tubby Raymond, UD football head coach, has been named Coach of the Year by the Vince Lombardi Football Awards Foundation. The award will be presented at the Eastern football awards banquet at the Meadowlands Sports Complex on Feb. 16.

The award, given on the basis of lifetime achievement, will be presented by Joseph Lombardi, foundation director and brother of the late famed coach Vince Lombardi. Penn State's Joe Paterno was the 1997 recipient.

Serving as head coach for 33 seasons at UD, Raymond holds a career record of 277-107-3, ranks second among active NCAA I-AA coaches and 10th on the all-time college coaching win list. He has led UD's team to three national titles, 15 NCAA playoffs, 13 Lambert Cup trophies, eight Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Team of the Year awards and five Atlantic 10 (Yankee Conference) titles. He has been named NCAA College Division Coach of the Year four times and Region Coach of the Year seven times.

The Blue Hens posted a 7-4 record this season and tied for second in the Atlantic 10 Conference Mid-Atlantic Division with a 4-4 mark. The team had its 11th straight winning season and missed the postseason for only the second time since 1990.
