TTCP, which encompasses basic research, exploratory developments and advanced technology demonstrators, was initiated in 1957 to enable sharing of defense R&D resources. The organization currently is made up of about a dozen subgroups, including one on materials technology, and these subgroups are further divided into technical panels. The group that visited UD are members of MAT Group P-Technical Panel 7, Composite Technology and Performance. Bruce K. Fink, AS '91PhD, who was recently appointed the Army's representative to Technical Panel 7, suggested that the group meet at CCM because of UD's world-renowned composites research capabilities.
