As autumn leaves begin to fall and fall and fall, many older people are overwhelmed by the task of raking them up and disposing of them.
To the rescue came volunteers from two UD student organizations-the Students Economic Association (SEA) and the Business Students Association (BSA). Through the Newark Senior Center, they were put in touch with senior citizens needing help and spent a November Saturday on yard patrol and leaf clean-up.
Student volunteers who helped senior citizens in the area with autumn cleanup were (from left, standing) Douglas Niosi, Sherman Mayle and Anthony DiMeo III, (from left, sitting) Kristi Zecker, Rebecca Cunningham and John Grant.
In a letter to Anthony DiMeo III, one of the organizers and secretary of SEA, Stacy Hyman, communications and resource development coordinator of the Newark Senior Center, wrote, "It is wonderful to have students like yourselves who are willing to give up their time to help these individuals. You and your university should be proud of the efforts put forth by SEA and BSA this past weekend. Thank you again, and we look forward to working with you on other projects in the future!"
