Lian-Ping Wang received the Francis Alison Society's Young Scholars Award for 1998 at the annual Named Professors Dinner Nov. 14 in Gore Hall.
The award was created by the members of the Francis Alison Society to recognize annually a young scholar at UD for outstanding research and publications, especially when such research flows back into teaching and the academic program.
Wang, an assistant professor in mechanical engineering, received his bachelor's and master's degrees in fluid mechanics at Zhejiang University (China) and his doctorate in mechanical engineering at Washington State.
After research appointments at Brown University and Pennsylvania State University, he joined UD's College of Engineering in 1994. Two years later, he won the college's Outstanding Teacher Award, and this year he is supervising the resesarch of five Ph.D. students in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
He is an expert in computational fluid dynamics, focusing upon particle transport in turbulent flow. Since 1994, he has published 18 articles in the top journals in his field.
Wang is presently collaborating with scientists at IBM on high-performance direct, numerical simulation of turbulence, using massive parallel computers.
The Young Scholars Award is funded by the Francis Alison Society, composed of 18 senior faculty members of the University who have received the prestigious Alison Award.
