If snow and ice storms arrive in the Delaware Valley, University employees and students have several options to find out if there are late openings, early closings or cancellations at the University.
Local radio stations will be given details for broadcast. (See list below.)
Channel 2 on the UDTV cable system will carry weather-related announcements.
Individuals can call 831-2000 to receive weather-related information. Members of the campus community are asked to not call the Department of Public Safety so that telephone lines there can remain open for emergency calls.
Employees and students with home access to the Internet should check out Eye Openers, the University's daily information web page, at <http://www.udel.edu/PR/ eyeopeners/>.
Early closing information on a workday will be communicated to the campus community via system announcements on mvs and UNIX e-mail. Each department also will be contacted by Employee Services using a telephone tree.
According to Maxine Colm, vice president for administration, the University's policy is to remain open whenever possible during extreme weather conditions.
If no formal announcement of closing, late opening or early dismissal is made, employees who decide for personal reasons not to report or to leave early must take vacation time or leave without pay.
Employees in essential positions are required to report to work during extreme weather conditions.
These employees will be designated by their directors in Dining Services, Facilities Management, Residential and Conference Facilities, Student Health Services, Public Safety and Information Technologies.
