The After Dinner Readers' Theatre will present Three by Two, a staged reading of three, short, one-act plays by Anton Chekhov, Bertolt Brecht and Tennessee Williams at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 23, at the Chapel Street Theatre, 27 North Chapel St., Newark. The program is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be provided.
Directed by James H. Cunningham, theatre, the production is cosponsored by the UD departments of English and Theatre, and it stars two New York actors, Roberto De Felice and Jane Lowe.
Brecht's The Jewish Wife, Chekhov's The Beast and Williams' This Property Is Condemned tell stories of a wife, a widow and a waif, each battling to prevail in worlds of hypocrisy, hilarity and irony.
The Jewish Wife is the painfully paradoxical tale of prejudice and insincerity; The Beast is a comical story of the battle of the sexes; and This Property Is Condemned is a sad, funny, poignant tale of a child/ woman's courageous fight for self-identity and survival.
