Policy forum in Clayton Hall

The Delaware Public Policy Institute will present a forum, "Choices for Delaware: Life and the Economy in the Year 2000 and Beyond," from 7:45 a.m.-2 p.m., Monday, Nov. 16, at Clayton Hall.

The forum is designed to provide public and private decision makers with practical analysis and options for action to position Delaware for maximum job growth and efficient delivery of government services while ensuring the state's quality of life in the future.

The results of a six-month, comprehensive economic growth study by UD faculty will be featured. Based on the research, statewide task forces of business, government and community representatives will review and formulate specific options for future action, with continual public input and public communication.

The mission is to determine approaches to economic growth and recommend options in infrastructure investment and fiscal planning, factoring in the private sector and the emerging global economy of the next century.

Co-sponsors are the College of Human Resources, Education and Public Policy's Institute of Public Administration and The News Journal.

Dating, intimacy program themes

Three programs that explore dating, relationships and intimacy are scheduled next week at UD as part of Let's Talk About Sex Week. All three programs begin at 8 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room of the Trabant University Center.

On Monday, Nov. 9, nationally recognized speaker Jay Friedman will present "Sex Matters" in a humorous but highly informative session about approaching intimacy in a healthy and caring way. Cost is $2 per person and tickets are available at University box offices.

On Wednesday, Nov. 11, Warren Blumenfield will present "Gay Rights," a talk on same-gender relationships and the laws surrounding them. This program is free.

On Thursday, Nov. 12, the National Association of Campus Activities will present its award-winning program, "Creative Dating." Speaker David Coleman, known as "The Dating Doctor," will discuss new and exciting ways to put the spark back in dating for those tired of a night of sharing pizza and a movie. Cost is $2 and tickets, are available at University box offices.

Writer to talk on Soviet literature

Tatyana Tolstaya, one of the leading Russian writers of today, will present a free, public talk on "Literature in Post-Soviet Russia," at 4 p.m., Friday, Nov. 6, in Room 231 MBNA America Hall. Her talk will explore the impact of the fall of the Soviet Union on the Russian literary process.

Born in Leningrad in 1951, Tolstaya is now a resident of Moscow, where she worked in the Nauka publishing house for eight years. She has published two critically acclaimed books of short stories. The first, On The Golden Porch, was published in Russian in 1987 and issued in English by Knopf in 1989. Knopf published her second book, Sleepwalker In A Fog, in 1992.

Verona duo will perform Dec. 5

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgendered Community Office, the Lesbian Health Initiative (LeHI) and Delaware Pride will present a coffehouse-style performance at the Unitarian Universalist Church on Willa Street in Newark, at 8 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 5.

Verona, a new folk guitar duo from Baltimore, will be the featured. The musicians are regulars at the 8 x 10 Club in Baltimore and at Main Street Blues in Ellicott City, Md. The duo's music will be featured on the soundtrack for a new, short film Who You Know, to be produced this summer in Baltimore.

Tickets are $5, available at the door, and proceeds will benefit LeHI and Delaware Pride.
