Four-day event to feature swing, jazz and rock
A four-day American Music Festival, featuring swing, choral and
instrumental concerts, a rock jam session and guest speaker forum, will be held from Nov. 13-16.
Sponsored by Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, all festival events are free, including
Friday, Nov. 13
- Concert of music for two percussionists, featuring guest artists Drew Land and Chris Hanning, 12:20 p.m., Loudis Recital Hall, Amy E. du Pont Music Building;
- Forum, "Where is American Music Today?," with specialist in ragtime and jazz Karen Rege, composer and music critic for The Village Voice Kyle Gann and composer and pioneer in "virtual concert" Internet technology William Duckworth, 2:30 p.m., Room 207, Amy E. du Pont Music Building; and
- Recital, featuring baritone Brian Stratton, who has performed Creole songs, American folk songs and spirituals, as well as art songs and opera selections in concerts worldwide and has an upcoming CD, The Music of Creole New Orleans: Concert Piano Music and Folk Songs, 8 p.m., Loudis Recital Hall, Amy E. du Pont Music Building.
Saturday, Nov. 14
- Rock band performance, "I'm with Koz," 5:30 p.m., The Scrounge, Perkins Student Center; and
- An evening of swing, featuring big band music in concert by the UD Jazz Ensemble I, followed by swing dancing until midnight, 8 p.m., Pearson Hall gymnasium.
Sunday, Nov. 15
- Sigma Alpha Iota American music concert, 4 p.m., Loudis Recital Hall, Amy E. du Pont Music Building; and
- Concert of chorus and brass, featuring baritone Patrick Evans and pianist Julie Nishimura, both music, the University Singers, the University Chorale and Collegium, 8 p.m., Loudis Recital Hall, Amy E. du Pont Music Building.
Monday, Nov. 16
- Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia recital of American music, featuring the brothers of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and guest flutist Crystal Norman and pianist Larry Peterson, music.
