Evaluation team to
track progress of project

Cynthia A. Robbins and Steve S. Martin

Cynthia A. Robbins, sociology, and Steven S. Martin, Center for Drug and Alcohol Studies, are gathering baseline and social indicator data that will allow them to compare any changes that take place as a result of the effort to reduce binge drinking at UD, which is funded by a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

They are gathering facts related to the campus, such as the number of alcohol-related arrests, emergency room visits and cases handled by the student judicial system.

They also are tracking social indicators, such as the number of alcohol-related advertisements in student and local newspapers, and they are becoming familiar with local alcohol laws.

Additionally, they are charged with process evaluation--documenting the activities of the committees and surveying the community and University professionals involved to obtain an assessment of the problem and to track the progress of the program.

Their data will become part of the national evaluation directed by Henry Wechsler at Harvard University's School of Public Health.
