The University is participating in the United Way of Delaware's sixth annual Days of Caring program-to be conducted through Sept. 30- through which members of the University community are invited to volunteer their services to a United Way agency.
Volunteers are needed to complete various projects, such as reading to children, serving hot and nutritious meals to people with low-incomes, collecting products for day cares, helping repair buildings and cleaning exteriors.
Several Days of Caring Projects available during this year's campaign include:
Children and Families FirstLast year, almost 4,000 volunteers from 43 companies extended a helping hand to 77 United Way of Delaware member and affiliated agencies.
Volunteers help secure car seats and cribs for foster children recently placed in homes.Independent Living Inc.
Participants will help repair a house for mentally disabled individuals on Connell Street in Wilmington.Goodwill Industries Corporate Donor Day
Volunteers help collect donations for Goodwill retail stores. Trucks are available for pick-ups on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.Goodwill Industries Operation Open-up
Participants will assist in preparing merchandise for the grand opening of new location on Route 13.Food Bank of Delaware
Volunteers will help organize database information and evaluate, sort and pack donations received from supermarkets.West End Neighborhood House Inc.
Participants will help in the planning and preparation of Camp Fright, an annual Halloween fund raising activity.Big Brothers Big Sisters
Volunteers will assist with children during a trip to Baltimore on Sept. 20, at no cost to the volunteers.Halloween Haunted House
Workers will help set up a room at a haunted house for children on Oct. 29.
