RideShare Delaware to host expo

RideShare Delaware will hold a Transportation Expo from 11 a.m.- 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 2, in the Trabant University Center. Information on alternative modes of transportation will be available.

A public service offered by DART First State, administered by the Transportation Management Association of New Castle County, RideShare Delaware maintains a database of potential carpoolers, vanpoolers, bicyclists and walkers commuting to work sites in Delaware. Anyone is able to use the services free of charge.

RideShare Delaware's goals are to increase the number of commuting options for Delawareans, to reduce traffic congestion on major commuting routes and to assist Delaware meet clean air goals.

When interested commuters call the toll-free number 1-888-RIDE MATCH, they are asked a series of questions about their work schedules and travel routes. The database then generates a list of potential carpoolers with similar schedules and sends that computerized list, along with a map and helpful carpooling hints. It is up to the commuter to contact the list of persons and make carpooling arrangements.

Several options are available for commuters who don't want to give up the freedom of driving every day or who need to run errands on their way to or from work.
