Business dean is elected to society's governing board

Dean Dana J. Johnson, business and economics, was elected in June to the board of governors of Beta Gamma Sigma, the honor society of American Association of Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) accredited business programs.

Her term will run through 2002. Other new board members are from Georgia State University and the universities of Utah, Memphis and Notre Dame.

Beta Gamma Sigma's mission is to encourage and honor academic achievement in the study of business, as well as personal and professional excellence in the practice of business.

Membership in the honor society is the highest national recognition a student in business can receive in an undergraduate or master's program accredited by AACSB. Of the 1,400 institutions with degree programs in business, fewer than 350 are accredited by AACSB and have chapters of Beta Gamma Sigma.

The total number of members worldwide is more than 400,000.

Johnson served as dean of the Wayne Calloway School of Business and Accountancy at Wake Forest University before coming to UD in 1996.
