Munson, 67, is a retired DuPont Co. manager, who worked in the business side of the polymers department. He has taught a class at the academy and led a folk music group there, called The Circle Singers, for four years. He succeeds former chairperson Ivar Lundgaard.
In addition to his new duties with the council, Munson said he will continue teaching a media analysis class and leading the singing group. " I expect it to be a very busy year," he said.
The council acts as a board of directors to the academy, providing direction for the learning-in-retirement cooperative and advising the University on academy administrative and bylaw issues.
The academy, established in 1980 for those 50 years and older, now has 1,800 members. It is located in Arsht Hall on the UD Wilmington Campus. Its fall catalog, which offers 171 courses, will be available this month.
