Awards banquet recognizes outstanding frats, sororities

The annual Greek awards banquet May 20 recognized outstanding achievements by fraternity and sorority chapters at the University during the 1997-98 academic year.

Sigma Chi fraternity received four awards for excellence in scholarship programming, University relations, alumni relations and overall chapter management.

Kappa Delta Rho fraternity received the award for excellence in community relations programming.

Chi Omega sorority won two awards-excellence in scholarship programming and overall chapter management.

Other sorority winners included Delta Gamma for excellence in University relations, Sigma Kappa for excellence in community relations programming and Alpha Sigma Alpha for excellence in alumnae relations programming.

The awards for highest overall grade point averages went to Theta Chi fraternity and Alpha Xi Delta sorority. Alpha Phi sorority and Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity were winners in the area of most improved overall grade point averages.

Awards were given to three fraternities and three sororities for their performance in the Five Star Chapter Evaluation program. Although all UD fraternities and sororities are required to participate in the Five Star Evaluation program, only the highest scoring organizations are recognized.

The Silver Cup winners receiving trophies and $500 academic incentive awards were Theta Chi fraternity and Alpha Xi Delta sorority.

The Bronze Cup winners receiving trophies and $250 academic incentive awards were Kappa Sigma fraternity and Alpha Epsilon Phi Sorority.
