35 faculty promoted

Promotions of 35 members of the University of Delaware faculty were approved at the semiannual Board of Trustees meeting, held May 26 in the Trabant University Center.

The appointments take effect Sept. 1.

Promoted to full professor are Michael Arenson, music; George Gilbert Bear and David Kaplan, both educational studies; Jayne I. Fernsler, nursing; John J. Frett, plant and soil sciences; Susan Goodman, English; Bernard Herman, art history; Felix Lazebnik, mathematical sciences; Carole C. Marks, Black American Studies Program; Susan Sweeney, theatre; Kathleen J. Tierney, sociology and criminal justice; and George Watson, physics and astronomy.

Eighteen faculty members were promoted to the rank of associate professor with tenure: Rick L. Andrews, Thomas E. Becker and Robert Joseph Kent, all business administration; Janice M. Bibik and Michael Peterson, both health and exercise sciences; Anne Elizabeth Bowler and Ramiro Martinez Jr., both sociology and criminal justice; Christine Anna Swanson Cannon and Paula R. Klemm, both nursing; Jesus Cruz, history; William J. Idsardi, linguistics; Alexander Lehrman, foreign languages and literatures; Rudolph P. Matthee and Arwen Mohun, both history; Sheldon D. Pollack, accounting; Lori L. Pollock, computer and information sciences; Jian-Qiao Sun, mechanical engineering; and Daniel Warren van der Weide, electrical and computer engineering.

Promoted to the rank of associate professor without tenure was Sharon S. Tucker, Parallel Program/Dover.

In addition, tenure was granted to four associate professors: Thomas S. Buchanan, mechanical engineering; Thomas W. Ilvento, food and resource economics; Susan L. Miller, sociology and criminal justice; and James Anthony Whitson, educational development.
