Web publishing classes
To be able to create and publish a basic web page, attend "Getting Started with Web Publishing." If you want to be able to maintain a page, also take "File Management for the Web," "Beginning HTML," "Intermediate HTML" and the "Web Page Clinic." If you are interested in including attractive images on your web page, attend "Photoshop Tricks for Web Pages."
Getting Started with Web Publishing (Beginner)
(Previously titled "Publishing Web Documents: Quick Start")
Prerequisite: Attendance at a "Browsing the World Wide Web" class or equivalent knowledge. You must have an active UNIX account.
Overview of the process and terminology for publishing on the web
- Create a basic page using an editor
- Make your files available to the world

File Management for the Web (Novice)
Prerequisite: You must have an active UNIX account.
This is valuable background for those contemplating the development of a web site.
- Learn the basics of managing web files on Windows and on a UNIX web server
- Manage files and directories on the UNIX system
- Use a UNIX text editor

Beginning HTML (Novice)
(Previously titled "Publishing Web Documents: Part 2")
Prerequisite: Attendance at a "Browsing the World Wide Web" class or equivalent knowledge. You must have an active UNIX account.
- Learn to use HTML to prepare a basic web document
- Work through a hands-on tutorial to create a basic web document with headings, lists, links and images
- Learn how to publish documents on the University's web server

Intermediate HTML (Advanced)

Prerequisite: Attendance at the "Beginning HTML" class.

Web Page Clinic (Advanced)
Prerequisite: Attendance at "Getting Started with Web Publishing, Beginning HTML and Intermediate HTML" or equivalent experience.

- Staff will assist you in putting together your web page
- Instructor will contact you before the class to review your learning needs

Photoshop Tricks for Web Pages (Advanced)
Prerequisite: Some knowledge of Photoshop would be helpful. Demonstration of:
- Making a simple animated GIF
- Using images with a transparent background

Windows 95: Two-Part Workshop
Windows 95 is the operating system that comes with most new, high-end IBM-compatible computers. Class will view a videotaped lesson and then complete step-by-step, hands-on exercises.
