UD visual communications faculty, students and alumni were well represented at the Advertising Club of Delaware's annual ADDE design/advertising awards ceremony, March 20, in Wilmington, according to Martha Carothers, art.
Judged by out-of-state advertising experts, the award-winning entries were displayed at the new Delaware College of Art and Design in Wilmington from March 20-April 17.
"The competition provided an opportunity for students to work on 'real-life projects,' beyond the classroom. It was gratifying that students' work, although it was low budget, ranked right up there with the professionals' entries in terms of concept and design," Carothers said.
Two entries by those with UD connections received silver awards. Faculty members Raymond Nichols and Carothers and student Tesia Farqumar won in the campaign poster category for their entry, "Truth vs. Rumor," a series of posters announcing meetings for first-year art students. Sean McCormick, AS '86, won in the newspaper advertising category for his entry, "Fila Clothes Are Cool."
Others in visual communications, whose works received merit awards and were on exhibit, included faculty Hendrik-Jan Frencke and Bill Deering, and students Wendy Ash, Joe Delpesco, Keith Johnson, Thomas Jones, Kristal Kinder, Pam Meierding, Scott Ratinoff, Brittney Singletary, Preston Thomas, Jill Twardowski and Jennifer Wilson.
Visual communications alumni receiving awards included Mary Allen '82, Rebecca Del Fabbro '86, lngrid Hansen-Lynch '84, Suzanne Helmerich '95, Paul Miles '75, Donna Perzel '80, Joe Strzykalski '96, Karen Winward '97 and former continuing education student Greg Williamson.
