English majors write top scripts

English majors senior Leah Browning Laker (left) and sophomore Sarah Shaw both were recognized May 1 as first-place recipients of a $500 prize in the Rainbow Books Script Writing Competition, sponsored by the Department of English and Rainbow Records.

Also shown are judge Susan Sweeney (seated, left) and Jeanne Walker, English, who coordinated the project.

Browning's play is entitled Burying Mr. Miller. Shaw's work is Electric Agent Orange Bingo Night. Both scripts were performed that evening.
