Held to call attention to the work of Habitat for Humanity International, especially within New Castle County, the event also helps raise funds for local Habitat for Humanity construction, including a house at 27 Corbit St. in Newark, where many volunteers from the campus have worked, according to Patti Powers, a senior economics major who is president of the campus chapter.
The day's events begin with the in-line skate at 9 a.m. The 5K run starts at 9:30 a.m., and the 5K race and healthwalk follow.
At least 48 race marshals are needed, as are volunteers to help with timing, registration on the day of the race, set up, take down, refreshments and to help at the finish line. Volunteers would need to work from approximately 7 a.m. until noon, Powers said.
Until Oct. 6, pre-registration fees are $10 for the general public and $8 for full-time UD students. After Oct. 6, fees are $12 for the general public and $10 for full-time UD students.
From Sept. 24-Oct. 10, registration tables will be set up two or three days a week in the Food Court of the Trabant University Center. Tables will be staffed for longer periods on the three days preceding the race-Oct. 8-10. It also will be possible to register from 7:45-8:45 a.m. on the day of the race.
For information or to volunteer, call the 5K information line at 376-0113. The race is sponsored in part by the Bank of New York, PNC Bank, WSFS and Connective (formerly Delmarva Power).
