 Campus 'Pacesetters' campaign under way

The Power of You" is the theme for the 1997 United Way campaign. The annual kickoff reception for this year's campus United Way drive is scheduled for Oct. 13, and the campaign will continue through Oct. 31, according to co-chairpersons Joyce Dennis Henderson and Karen Garrett, employee services.

This year's UD campaign goal is $185,000. Last year UD employees exceeded the $160,000 goal.

The Pacesetters campaign on campus, chaired by Marion Peavey, vice president for University development and alumni relations, began Sept. 12 and continues until Sept. 22.

During this period, senior UD administrators and employees pledge to support the annual fund drive and set the pace of the general campaign.

"Pacesetters are expected to lead the campaign, and we are hopeful that this year's effort will generate many more leaders than in past years," Peavey said. "The community is dependent upon each gift to the United Way effort and, through our support, the work of these important agencies here in Newark will be able to meet many of the needs of those who need help.

"I urge everyone to do their part in making the campaign a success and, more importantly, providing support for those in need."
