UpDate wins two first-place Press Association awards

UpDate won two first-place awards and two second-place awards in the Delaware Press Association 1998 First State Communications Contest, judged by out-of-state media specialists. Two UD staff members in other offices also were recognized at a dinner at the Du Pont Country Club on April 16.

In the Office of Public Relations:

Ed Okonowicz won first place as managing editor of UpDate in the public relations magapaper/tabloid category.

Sue Moncure won first place for her feature story about campus employees with the same name.

Beth Thomas won a second-place award for her story of a UD student with a Jack the Ripper webpage.

Kathlene Wheatley won a second-place honor for layout and design of UpDate.

First place print media advertising, single sheet poster, special event, nonprofit;
First place, PR/promotion/ publicity institutional relations, nonprofit; and
Second place, PR printed materials, external annual report, nonprofit.

Sally Donatello, College of Arts and Science,
First place, public relations printed materials, newsletters, one-to-three color, nonprofit; and
Third place, public relations printed materials, newsletter, one-to-three color nonprofit.

The first-place state winners were sent to the National Federation of Press Women Professional Communications Contest, which will announce national winners in June.
