Fee waivers Employees are taxed on graduate course fee waivers used by a spouse and/or dependent child. The value of the graduate course fee waiver used by an eligible dependent during the 1998 spring semester is $687.This amount will be added to an employee's taxable income and FICA taxes withheld from the May 15 paycheck.
No federal or state taxes will automatically be withheld. Employees using this benefit are advised to review their withholding allowances in the event an adjustment is needed.

Safety training The Department of Occupational Health and Safety is presenting training sessions during May.
All sessions will take place in Room 130 of the General Services Building. For additional information, call 831-8475.
- "Laser Training," 3-4 p.m., Monday, May 4;
- "Right-to-Know/General Employees," 9-10 a.m., Wednesday, May 13;
- "Trenching/Shoring," 9-10 a.m., Tuesday, May 19; and
- "Scaffolding," 9-10 a.m., Thursday, May 21.
CPR course A CPR Instructor's Course will be given from 6-10 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday, April 29-30, in Room 130, General Services Building.Attendance at both classes is mandatory. Preregistration is required and the class is limited to 12 participants.
Candidates must have a current healthcare provider card and be affiliated with a training center. Candidates completing the course will receive an American Heart Association BCLS Instructor's card.
Cost is $45. Registration deadline is April 24.

Hall closings All students must vacate the residence halls by 10 p.m., Friday, May 29, with the exception of those students who are both scheduled for a final examination during the evening of May 29 and who have registered with their hall director.Graduating seniors and other students working at Commencement, and who reside on campus, may stay in their rooms until 5 p.m., Saturday, May 30, providing they register with their hall director.
Faculty members who are conducting the last final examinations should refer questions pertaining to residence hall closings to hall directors.
Young scholars The Francis Alison Society will conduct its third annual Young Scholars Award competition. The award is given annually to one assistant professor in the University who has shows distinction through research and publications, especially where such research affects teaching and the academic program.Nominations are made through departmental chairpersons and must include a curriculum vitae, one book, article and other work that the nominee believes represents his or her best work, plus the endorsement of the chairperson.
The award includes ceremonial recognition and a cash prize. Nominations are due by May 30 and must be submitted to the Secretary, Francis Alison Society, Room 306, Robinson Hall.

Holocaust Day Holocaust Day of Remembrance will be held at 6 p.m, Thursday, April 23, on the Mall, near the Harter and Brown residence halls.The public event is sponsored by the Religious Concerns Caucus, University Religious Leaders' Organization and Rabbinic Association of Delaware.

Script reading The scripts that won the two, $500 first-place prizes in the Rainbow Script Writing Competition will be presented during a staged reading at 7 p.m., Friday, May 1, at Rainbow Books on Main Street.Prior to the reading, the names of the authors will be announced.
Admission to the reading is free.
Handling stress Robin Elliott, occupational health and safety, will share exercises to help relieve stress related to prolonged work at computer stations during a brown bag luncheon from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., Wednesday, April 29, in Room 206 Trabant University Center.Sodas and cookies will be provided. Participants will have a chance to win a Bike-to-Work T-shirt. Registration is limited to 40.

Freedom show The Delaware Humanities Forum will host an additional public performance of Delaware's Railroad to Freedom.The musical theatre-style documentary chronicles Delaware's role in the Underground Railroad and is written by UD employees Scott Mason, student centers, and Joyce Hill Stoner, art conservation.
The added performance will be presented at 1:45 p.m., Friday, May 1, at the Friends Meeting House in Wilmington.

ACs for sale Campus Delivery has 24 used air conditioners for sale. Most are 220 volt. Bids will be accepted for the entire lot through May 8. Bids must be submitted in writing to Jim Crowe in Campus Delivery.
UpDate schedule UpDate is published each Thursday during the spring semester, through May 28, when it begins its biweekly schedule.The summer schedule includes publication on June 11 and 25, July 9 and 23 and Aug. 6 and 20. The weekly schedule resumes on Sept. 3, with the start of the fall semester.
