National group honors multicultural advocate

Scott Mason, student centers, received the Multicultural Advocate Award presented by National Association of Campus Activities (NACA) Educational Foundation Feb. 15 at the organization's national convention in Indianapolis.

The award was established to recognize and honor the work of administrators who make extraordinary contributions to multiculturalism on campus and to encourage and promote the development of programs and services on cultural diversity and awareness.

Mason was nominated because of his involvement with a number of diverse campus programs, including Sexual Assault Awareness Week, various women's programs, the lesbian, gay, bisexual concerns under the President's Commission to Promote Racial and Cultural Diversity and programming work in bringing diverse cultural and ethnic entertainment to the campus.

Mason said he was pleased that a number of colleagues on campus thought enough of his efforts to nominate him for the award. He was presented a plaque at the ceremony, which was attended by a number of UD delegates, including representatives from the Student Center Programs Advisory Board, Cultural Programming Advisory Board, Black Student Union, HOLA, Resident Student Association and the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Student Union.

The NACA, which serves colleges and universities, is committed to inspiring excellence in student leadership development and programs outside the classroom and advancing the campus activities professions. The association provides educational and business opportunities, resources and services for college students, staff and suppliers.
