Brecht parable to open April 2

UD graduate students starring in The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui, presented by the Professional Theatre Training Program, include (from left), J. Vaneik Echeverria of Los Angeles, Calf., who portrays Givola; Carin Montbertrand of Madison, Wisc., as Arturo Ui; and Rene Thornton of Centreville, Md., as Roma.

The Professional Theatre Training Program will open Bertolt Brecht's comic, yet chilling, parable at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 2. Additional performances are scheduled at 7:30 p.m., Friday, April 3, Saturday, April 4, Wednesday, April 29, Sunday, May 3, and Friday, May 8. A 12:30 p.m. matinee also is scheduled for Sunday, May 3. All performances take place in Hartshorn Hall.

Echoing Hitler's rise to power, and set in the ganglands of the 1930s, the play tells the story of Arturo Ui. Ui sells "protection" to Chicago's vegetable merchants, blackmails local officials and murders those who challenge him, all the while charming his supporters.

Single tickets for the general public are $15 for Friday and Saturday evenings, $14 for weeknights and $12 for matinee and Sunday evening shows. Discounted prices are available for UD students, faculty, staff, senior citizens and members of the UD Academy of Lifelong Learning.
