Delaware resident Florence Avis, who has worked and traveled extensively in the Holy Land, will present a lecture and slide show entitled "The Four Religions of Israel", focusing on the holy sites of Judaism, Islam, Christianity and the Baha'i faith in present-day Israel.
The free, public program will be presented at 7 p.m., Thursday, April 2, in Room 209/211 of the Trabant University Center, and it is sponsored by the Baha'i Club at UD.

Latin-American films in Trabant
"Latin America Through Film," a series of contemporary films, are being shown at 7 p.m., Thursdays, in the Trabant University Center Theatre. The movies are in Spanish with English subtitles.Remaining films in the series include: De eso no se hable, directed by Maria Lusia Bemberg, Argentina, 1993, on Thursday, March 26; Nueba Yol, directed by Angel Muniz, Republica Dominicana, 1996, on Thursday, April 16; and El lado oscuro del corazon, directed by Eliseo Subiela, Argentina, 1992, on Thursday, April 23.
The series is sponsored by the HOLA group of the UD and American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, Delaware chapter.

Series of travel study tours set
Free preview sessions of a refreshing alternative to standard travel packages that have been developed for adults by the University will begin at 3 p.m., Wednesday, March 25, in Arsht Hall on the Wilmington campus.Designed for adult travelers looking for more than sightseeing and sandy beaches, the overseas programs emphasize learning, with opportunities for firsthand education about foreign countries, their culture and customs through on-site lectures, seminars and field experiences.
Spring 1998 programs are scheduled to Belize, China, Costa Rica, Egypt, the Galapagos Islands and Ecuador, Greece, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Morocco, South African and Turkey.
Summer programs will include Alaska, Belize, China, Egypt, the Galapagos Islands and Ecuador, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Kenya, Morocco, Nova Scotia, South Africa and Turkey.
These travel/study tours for adult learners range from $2,000 to $5,000 and include meals, first-class accommodations, unique learning experiences and airfare from the tour's departure cities.

Ballroom dance lessons to begin
The University of Delaware Ballroom Dance Team is sponsoring a series of 10-week ballroom dance lessons starting Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday evenings, March 22, 24 and 26. Each class will meet once a week and include lessons in such dances as the swing, fox trot, waltz and cha-cha.
On Tuesdays, a beginner class will be offered from 7-8 p.m. in the West Park Place Elementary School cafeteria, 192 West Park Place in Newark. Two other Tuesday classes, which meet in the gymnasium of UD's Pearson Hall, include "Beginner II," which meets from 7-8 p.m. and "Intermediate," which meets from 8-9 p.m.
On Thursdays, an advanced beginner class will be held from 7-8 p.m. at West Park Place school and a special tango and swing class will meet in Pearson Hall from 8-9 p.m.
On Sundays, two beginner classes will be offered from 7-8 p.m. and 8-9 p.m. in Pearson Hall.
The cost is $50 for the general public and $25 for full-time UD students.

Faculty art in area exhibition
Three art department faculty members are exhibiting works in the Delaware Art Museum's Biennial '98, which carries on the museum's 86-year-old tradition of exhibiting contemporary art from the region.Robert Straight is exhibiting in the abstract painting classification with "large-scale paintings of otherworldly, rotating shapes."
Randy C. Bolton is exhibiting "digital inkjet prints of strange creatures" in the new media classification.
Karen Butler shows "walls of stacked colored photographs of seascapes" in the installations classification.
The juried exhibition runs through June 7 and includes contemporary art from artists from 22 counties in Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland and New Jersey.

Quartet concert in Loudis Hall
The Mendelssohn String Quartet will present a recital in the Loudis Recital Hall of the Amy E. du Pont Music Building at 8 p.m., Thursday, March 26. The program will feature String Quartet in f minor, Op. 80 by Mendelssohn, String Quartet in D Major, Op. 20, No. 4 by Haydn and Mendelssohn's Andante and Scherzo, Op. 81.The Mendelssohn String Quartet- with Nick Eanet and Nicholas Mann, violins; Katherine Murdock, viola; and Marcy Rosen, cello-in residence at the University of Delaware since 1989, performs frequently in the United States and abroad.
Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for faculty, staff and senior citizens and $2 for students. Tickets may be purchased in advance at the Bob Carpenter Center or Trabant University Center box offices or at the door.
