If You Are a Victim of Crime

Victims should always report crimes to the police immediately. Call 9-911 on campus or 911 off campus. You must file a formal report to allow the police to investigate the crime. Once you report a crime you are under no obligation to follow through with prosecution.

If the incident involves injuries or sexual assault/rape, go to the nearest emergency room as soon as possible. If the incident was a sex crime, do not wash or change clothes. Bring extra clothing with you, if possible, as the clothes you were wearing may need to be kept as evidence.

Follow-up care is of utmost importance. You may need testing, medical treatment, or counseling services. Although it is highly recommended that you pursue treatment, you do have the right to refuse these options.

Please remember: Victims are not responsible for crimes committed against them.

No matter when or where an incident occurred, support and referral are available to you.
