9-911 (Emergencies Only)

In the Communications Center -- the heart of the department --
are David Hopkins and Karen Smith.

9-911 is for emergencies only! Use 9-911 if you need immediate assistance from law enforcement, the fire department, emergency medical services, in case of fire, for traffic accidents with injuries, choking, crimes in progress, and medical emergencies, etc.

When you call 9-911, please remain as calm as possible, speak clearly, and give the dispatcher as much information as possible.

When 9-911 is dialed, the Department of Public Safety knows the exact origin of a campus emergency as soon as the call is received. All University phone lines are part of the 911 system. This system allows the department to respond immediately and appropriately to each individual's needs.

Please remember that this is an emergency line. All non-emergency calls should be directed to 831-2222. When the emergency lines are tied up with routine calls, it can delay needed medical/police assistance. If you accidentally call 9-911, do not hang up! Let the dispatcher know that you mis-dialed. If you hang up, the dispatcher must call back to verify that there is not an actual emergency. If verification cannot be obtained, an officer will be sent to the location. This ties up an officer whose services may be needed elsewhere.
