Dennis Jackson, English, has received a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) grant to work on a biography of Chuck Stone, the prominent African-American journalist, civil rights advocate and educator who was a member of UD faculty from 1984-1991.
The grant of $30,000 was one of 85 NEH grants awarded nationally to university faculty.
Jackson also is one of 17 American college journalism professors to receive a 1998 award from the Freedom Forum Journalism Publish Program. The $2,000 award also will be used for work on the biography, Chuck Stone: Man in the Middle: A Story of Audacious Black Power in the Newsroom, scheduled for publication in 2000.
