Energy awareness fair to offer exhibits, programs

An Energy Conservation/ Awareness Fair, featuring morning talks from energy professionals and afternoon exhibits on the latest innovations in the field for home and business, will be held on Thursday, March 19, at the Trabant University Center. The daylong event is free and open to the University community and the general public.

As a special attraction for students, those correctly answering an energy question will be eligible for a drawing to win coupons good for travel on Delta Airlines to almost anywhere in the United States. The coupons are being donated by University Travel Services.

The morning program, which will be held in the theatre, will open with registration starting at 7:30 a.m. Executive Vice President David E. Hollowell will offer welcoming remarks at 8:20 a.m. Other speakers will include Brad North, market manager of Conectiv Solutions, on "The University/Conectiv Partnership"; Richard Walter, director of facilities management at UD, on "University of Delaware Projects and Plans"; Dave Mosbey, director of facilities at Delaware State University, on "The Delaware State Story"; Jack O'Connell, chief engineer in Philadelphia's Municipal Energy Office, on "The City of Philadelphia Energy Story"; Helen Diemer, principal of the Lighting Practice, on "Effective Lighting Design"; and Guy Douglas of the ICF Consulting Group, with a wrap-up presentation.

Throughout the afternoon, displays will be on view in the Multipurpose Room. Area vendors will show the latest developments in energy-management systems, heating and cooling products, computer repair, steam-leak detection, high-efficiency retrofit lighting products and office machines, among others.

A UD residence hall room will be recreated to demonstrate campus energy-saving initiatives in place.

The March 19 fair is sponsored by the University and Conectiv.
