Tax talk featured on WDEL hotline

Starting Saturday, March 7, Sheldon Pollack, accounting, will begin weekly appearances answering tax questions on Consumer Hotline with host Frank Gregory, on WDEL (1150 AM).

Pollack, a tax attorney and assistant professor of acounting, is the author of The Failure of U.S. Tax Policy: Revenue and Politics and 25 articles on federal taxes and tax reform. He was the featured expert on Tax Tips, a UD-produced radio program that aired on several Delaware radio stations, and he frequently acts as a tax law expert for the media.

WDEL's Consumer Hotline will be aired Saturdays from 9 a.m.-noon. Pollack will answer federal tax questions during the 11 a.m. to noon segment. Pollock and Eleanor Craig, economics, will be featurned from 6:30 to 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 27, on Suburban Cable Channel 2's Financially Speaking.

The Consumer Hotline tax segment will run through April 11.

Discourse series to end in March

Farah Griffin of the University of Pennsylvania will speak on "Lady in G-Flat: Billie Holiday's Challenge to the Politics of Respectability" at 3 p.m., Wednesday, March 11, in Room 005, Kirkbride Lecture Hall. The program is part of the Multicultural Discourse Group series.

On Friday, March 20, Alpana Sharma Knippling of the University of Nebraska, Sangeeta Ray of the University of Maryland and Margaret Stetz of Georgetown University will participate in a roundtable discussion on "Postcolonial Studies and the Globalization of the American University Curriculum." The discussion will begin at 3 p.m., in Room 117 of Gore Hall.

The series concludes with Martin Bruckner of the University of South Carolina who will present "Lost in Space-Lewis and Clark, Native Americans and Irreconcilable Geographies" at 3 p.m., Friday, March 27, in Room 005 Kirkbride Hall.

The series, led by Alvina Quintana, English, is funded by an Instructional Supplement Grant from the Center for Teaching Effectiveness, the Office of Affirmative Action and Multicultural Programs, and the College of Arts and Science dean's office. Piano recital in Loudis Hall

A recital featuring pianist Steven Goetz will be presented at 8 p.m., Monday, March 16, in the Loudis Recital Hall of the Amy E. du Pont Music Building. Sponsored by the Department of Music, the recital is free and open to the public.

The program will include several Toccatas by J. S. Bach, Fantasias for Piano, Op. 116 by Brahms and other works.

A Cincinnati native, Goetz performed with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra while still in high school. With bachelor's and master's degrees in piano performance from the University of Texas and a doctorate from the Catholic University of America Goetz has performed as a soloist and chamber musician throughout the United States and Europe, including a solo recital at Carnegie Recital Hall. He is a past recipient of an Emerging Artist Grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts.

Comedy, coffee in Trabant Center

Skip's Java Time will be the theme of activity beginning at 8 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 28, in the Multipurpose Room of the Trabant University Center. The evening will include performances by comedians Mike Cheselka and Vince Morris, acoustic guitarist Dominic Gaudious and a casino club. Tickets for $2 per person may be purchased at the University box offices.

The coffeehouse setting, which will feature Gaudious, will offer free food and board games in a relaxed atmosphere. The more adventurous can try their luck at blackjack, roulette, poker and craps in the casino. Prizes include gift certificates for Trabant University Center dining. Satirist Mike Cheselka and vivacious Vince Morris headline the Comedy Club segment.

With ticket stubs from the event, participants will receive $1 off blooming onions, wings and chicken fritters in the Food Court from 7 p.m. until midnight.
