Maya Angelou to speak Oct. 19

Maya Angelou, one of the great voices of contemporary literature and one of the nation's most respected humanitarians, will speak at 6:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 19, at the Three Little Bakers Dinner Theatre in Pike Creek, and special ticket prices are available to full-time UD undergraduate and graduate students.

A limited number of tickets are available now at the box offices in the Bob Carpenter Center and the Trabant University Center. Cost is $10 for full-time UD undergraduate and graduate students with valid ID. A shuttle bus will take students to the program, leaving the Trabant University Center at 5:45 p.m.

General public tickets-at $38- include a buffet dinner from 5-7 p.m. and are available at the UD box offices and at Three Little Bakers, telephone 368-1616. The special UD student rate but does not include the buffet.

The Oct. 19 program is cosponsored by the YWCA of New Castle County, the UD Center for Black Culture, the Black Student Union, the Cultural Programming Advisory Board, the Campus Diversity Unit, the Delaware Humanities Forum and the Christina Cultural Arts Center Inc. Partnership.

Angelou, who delivered the 1996 UD Commencement address is a poet, educator, historian, author, actress, playwright, civil rights activist, producer and director. She has written 11 bestsellers, including I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Gather Together in My Name, And Still I Rise, The Heart of a Woman. and her most recent Wouldn't Take Nothing for My Journey Now
