UD teams in national competitions

The University Cheerleaders (above), Precision Dance Team and YoUDee, the Blue Hen mascot, have been invited to compete in the Universal Cheerleading Association National Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, Fla., from Jan. 8-11. The mascot competition will be held at Pleasure Island on Jan. 8, while both the cheerleading and precision dance competitions will be held in the Indiana Jones Amphitheatre on Jan. 9.

The UD Cheerleading Team is currently ranked ninth in Division I, and the UD Precision Dance team is currently ranked seventh in the "Open Dance" division.

Last year, at the same competition the Cheerleading Team placed fifth and the Dance Team placed sixth overall. In 1996, YoUDee was selected by the Universal Cheerleading Association (UCA) as one of the four top mascots in the country at the national competition in Florida.

The competitions will be televised in April on both ESPN and ESPN2, with times and dates announced later.
