Lawrence "Larry" A. Griffith Jr., associate director of admissions and director of multicultural recruitment at Brown University, has been named director of admissions at the University of Delaware.
In making the announcement today, Frederic A. Siegel, associate provost for enrollment services at UD, said, "Larry Griffith brings a rich background to the UD team, including experience working with students at both the high school and the college levels. I know his insights and enthusiasm will prove valuable as he works with prospective students and their families, high school officials and community leaders. I look forward working with him "
In his new position, which is effective Jan. 1, Griffith, 33, will manage the admissions process for freshmen and transfer students to the University's six undergraduate colleges and will develop strategies to increase the number of students from under-represented groups.

"The University of Delaware is an extraordinary place, with a demonstrated commitment to providing its students a world-class education. I am looking forward to becoming a part of the UD family and to working with one of the profession's finest groups of admissions staff members to continue the recruitment, selection and matriculation of the nation's best students."
Born and raised in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Griffith attended Charlotte Amalie High School. After graduating with honors in 1982, he attended the College of William and Mary, where he received a bachelor of science degree in biology in 1986. He then went on to study toward a master's degree in guidance and counseling at Trinity College in Washington, D.C., where he was inducted into the education honor society, Pi Lambda Theta.
Griffith began his career in higher education administration as assistant to the director of admissions at William and Mary. Three years later, he joined the counseling department at Gonzaga College High School in Washington, D.C., as director of college counseling. During his six years at Gonzaga, his professional activities included serving as president of the Potomac and Chesapeake Association for College Admissions Counseling and as a member of the National Association for College Admissions Counseling's (NACAC) Media and Marketing and Government Relations Advisory committees and on the executive board of the Northern Virginia chapter of the College of William and Mary Alumni Association.
He joined the admissions staff at Brown University in 1995.
He is a member of the New England Association for College Admissions Counseling and was elected by the membership to the 1996-98 NACAC Legislative Assemblies.
Griffith is the son of Janet N. Griffith, retired fiscal officer for general fund matters of the Virgin Islands Department of Education, and Lawrence A. Griffith Sr., retired assistant commissioner of public safety and current lead chief security officer of the Virgin Islands federal court district facilities.
