Newark to hold Winterfest '97
Winterfest '97, an evening celebration of the holiday season, will be held from 4:30-8:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 5, in the Newark business district. The rain date is Saturday, Dec. 6.
Main Street will be aglow with the lights and festivity of the season. There will be carriage rides, roaming carolers, face painting, balloon creations, store and restaurant specials, a non-alcoholic drink competition and roasted chestnuts for sale.
The tentative schedule of events includes:
- 4:30 p.m.-professional ice carving contest;
- 5 p.m.-musical performance by Broadway Bound;
- 6 p.m.-roaming caroling by Razzmatazz;
- 6:30 p.m.-storytelling and refreshments; and
- 7:30 p.m.-tree-lighting ceremony and holiday caroling.
In addition, Newark Parks and Recreation Division is sponsoring two events for children on Saturday, Dec. 6- Snack with Santa, featuring crafts and cardmaking, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at West Park Elementary School and Santa's Secret Shoppe where children can purchase gifts for family and friends, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at the George Wilson Center.
Winterfest '97 is sponsored by the City of Newark, Downtown Newark Inc. and the University.
