Taggart named state arts fellow

Christiaan Taggart, music, has received the 1997-98 Individual Artist Fellowship from the Delaware Division of the Arts in the category of Solo Recital in Guitar.

An instructor of guitar in the Department of Music and director of the UD Guitar Ensemble, Taggart has appeared as a soloist with the Delaware Symphony, the Richmond Chamber Players, the Delaware Chamber Orchestra, the Wilkes-Barre Ballet and the Pennsylvania Chamber Orchestra, receiving critical acclaim for his performances.

The winner of four Paul Revere awards for excellence in music publishing, Taggart's transcriptions for flute and guitar have been published by Theodore Presser and Company. Currently, he is preparing modern editions of three guitar concertos by Guiliani and Marcello.

Since 1982, he has performed and recorded with flutist Eileen Grycky, music, as a member of the Taggart-Grycky Duo. After their recent concert tour of Belgium, the critic of Le Jour-Le Courier in Brussels wrote of Taggart, he is "a master of his instrument...he left the audience breathless."
