Pedestrian safety
University Master Police Officer William Staker directs pedestrian traffic at the crosswalk at Main Street near the Trabant University Center. According to UD Public Safety Director Lawrence Thornton, the education/enforcement effort is a cooperative undertaking involving the University, the city of Newark and the Delaware Department of Transportation to facilitate pedestrian and bicycle safety in Newark. The University's efforts will be shifted to different locations to manage pedestrian flow at such other sites as the intersection of Delaware and South College avenues and at Amstel Avenue and Elkton Road.
