HIV/AIDS educational and motivational speaker Scott Fried will present a free, public talk entitled, "AIDS, Love and Staying Alive," at 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 20, in Mitchell Hall.
Fried, an actor on the television show The Guiding Light, is the author of the book, AIDS, Love and Staying Alive: If I Grow Up. He has been HIV positive since 1987. Attaching a name and face to the virus, he speaks openly about his HIV status, how he got infected and how he stays alive.
In his talk Fried provides information on sexual responsibility, homosexuality, peer pressure, refusal that kills and dealing with death.
In addition to answering questions, he teaches basic and advanced facts about AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases, using music, film, role-playing and storytelling to deliver his message.
Fried works closely with the Jewish Board of Family and Children's Services, HIV/AIDS Prevention and Education Programming in New York City and is a founding member of THE (Teen HIV Educators), a peer HIV-education program.
He has spoken at numerous colleges, universities, high schools, Jewish organizations and national conventions.
