Geology chair announced

     John F. Wehmiller is the new chairperson of the Department of
Geology, succeeding Billy P. Glass who returned to the faculty.
     Wehmiller, who holds a bachelor's degree from Swarthmore
College and a doctorate in geology from Columbia University,
joined the University faculty in 1972.
     A fellow in the Geological Society of America, he is a
specialist in quaternary geochronology. He has published
extensively in his field and is on the editorial board of
Quaternary Science Reviews.
     Wehmiller has contributed geochronological expertise to the
U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and his research has received
support from the National Science Foundation and the U.S.
Geological Survey.
