Competition deadline set

     The Delaware chapter of the American Statistical Association
has announced a competition for the second annual Arthur E. Hoerl
Meritorious Student Paper award.
     A cash prize of $300 will be awarded to a graduate student
in the state of Delaware who submits the best paper on an
interesting application of existing or new statistical methods or
the development of a new method. Students must be admitted to an
accredited graduate or professional program in the state and
working toward a graduate degree in any field.
     The award honors the late Arthur Hoerl, who was a professor
of statistics at the UD after serving as a senior consultant to
the Du Pont Co.
     Submissions must be postmarked by Monday, Feb. 3 and
received by 4 p.m., Friday, Feb. 14.
     The award will be made at the organization's spring
conference at Clayton Hall on Friday, April 25.
     The chairperson of the award committee is John H.
Schuenemeyer, mathematical sciences.
