Wellness Works - Toni DeCapua
I was experiencing low energy levels and I wasn't feeling
just right. In April, I decided to enroll in the Wellness weight-
management classes. Being able to use my Wellness Dollars was an
incentive, since I could get good advice and it wouldn't cost me
anything. I also heard that dietitian Marianne Carter was very
good.
"I took part in a series of lunchtime classes. We were in
small groups of eight to 10, and they were held close to my
workplace.
"We learned about how to manage our weight by reducing fat,
eating healthy and taking part in exercise, specifically walking.
To date, I've lost 12 pounds. To be honest, I've been
concentrating on my food-management program by eating healthier
and looking at my portion size.
"The things we did in the sessions, you don't get other
places. We received printed information, a book about walking off
weight and an opportunity to have one full day of the food you
eat analyzed on a computer. It was very individualized.
"What I think is most important is that I didn't lose weight
during the class sessions. It happened afterward, by utilizing
what I learned and walking three miles, three times a week. You
have to be committed and decide for yourself to make a change in
your lifestyle and modify your eating habits.
"I have suggested the program to others, and I plan to take
another Wellness class. In fact, there are several that I am
considering."
