Walkway to Old College honors generous donors
A reception attended by hundreds of University staff, alumni
and friends was held at the Trabant University Center on Friday,
Oct. 18, to honor the dedication of the Diamond Walkway, a
special area on the campus designed to recognize and thank the
most generous donors to the University-members of the Delaware
Diamonds Society and the UD Legacy Society.
The Diamond Walkway extends from Main Street to the steps of
Old College and features large, gray pavers forming diamond
shapes in the center, surrounded by red bricks that have been
engraved with the names of the University's most generous donors.
The Delaware Diamonds Society includes individuals who have
given at least $5,000 to the University or who have pledged to do
so over a five-year period, and the Legacy Society is composed of
individuals who have established gifts for the Univeristy as part
of their estate planning.
At this first ceremony, 743 engraved bricks were installed
on the Old College walkway recognizing members of the Legacy
Society and Delaware Diamonds.
Each fall, the names of new members will be recognized and
their names added to the Diamond Walkway.
